There's nothing pretty about being so strained with worry about our families, livelihoods, and health in these elevated times of stress. Anxiety looks like wrinkles, health deterioration, and exhaustion on your mind and body.
Sometimes coping with stress and anxiety means we start neglecting our own self-care. Here are a few tips to help you really start thriving again, instead of simply surviving.
Eating foods rich in antioxidants, like broccoli and garlic, provide defense against overproduction of free radicals, which are atoms or molecules that are highly reactive with others. When they overpower the balance against antioxidants, they can cause health problems.
Multivitamins are also a great place to start in improving mood, motivation, and function. Vitamins like magnesium and D3 can get you uplifted enough to start making more profound lifestyle changes.
Getting a great night's sleep is a delicate dance. You might have had plenty of time to sleep during lockdown, but that could be as problematic as not having enough.
If you struggle with falling asleep, try a bedtime routine;
Doing things that are understimulating will cause your brain to associate this time with relaxation and sleep, so you get your full eight hours and function optimally.
Your thoughts play a major role in your overall health. Self-care isn't just about physical health and symptoms- sometimes it begins inside.
Stating positive phrases out loud in repetition, also known as mantras, trains your brain to adopt these beliefs and is proven to impact the probability of them becoming a reality. (Fake it til you make it).
A great one could be, "I am in control and deserving of my health and happiness". Meditate, rinse, repeat.
Speaking of rinse, your hydration levels fuel your ability to thrive. Drinking clean water throughout the day keeps all your systems flowing in balance.
Four generous glasses of water a day is a great place to start. One in the morning, two with lunch, one at night.
Water is responsible for transporting nutrients and fluids, as well as maintaining the structures of your body, like joint cartilage- just like collagen!
Drinking liquid collagen, along with a glass of water, a hearty meal, and a quick moment of gratitude, is all it takes to start prioritizing your health to feel better and maintain the glow on the inside and the outside.
Your health shouldn't come second. You have to be well to do well.
